If I was a chicken, I’d be sans head at this point…
I feel as if I’ve spent all about about five minutes in my house the past week, and I know the Mrs. feels like it’s been even less. The last two weeks, I’ve had Wedensday night seminars, so I’ve been at class Tuesday, Wedensday, and Thursday night. Last weekend we had all of the issues with Holly’s dad going into the hospital. The good news it, after a few little hitches, he’s now home and on the road to recovery.
This weekend doens’t lessen the madness any. Tonight is poker night with Adam from my MBA group, his wife, and a small group of others. Tomorrow is Open House for Law School. I’m actually really excited about it, my first taste of something Law School, just plain exciting. Right after that, though, I have to do some MBA group work. Sunday afternoon, I have to go to the Northside of Indianapolis to have my work critiqued from the Leadership Development Institue I attended in Bloomington. Then next week will be T-W-TH again, and then FINALLY a little bit of a break for Easter.
What makes it all ok, though? Spring is here. More than that? Baseball season is here. Sunday is Opening Day, with the REAL Opening Day with the majority of teams being Monday. I’m as happy as a little school girl. For $15, I purchased MLB Gameday Audio, which lets me listen to every MLB game online all season. It’s gonna make afternoon work alot easier being able to listen to Tiger’s games all Spring long. Damn I love baseball.
Thoughts at the closing bell:
- Today has been a busy but great day at work, I acheived my goal for the month and will get a nice little bonus for it. Considering I was out a whole week, I’m pretty proud of this.
- Macroeconomics is definatley going to be a very interesting class, and is already sparking many little debates. THIS is the kinda class I can dig my teeth into.
- Iran is holding these British soldiers and I can’t figure out for the life of me why. I can only think that they are hoping to provoke sometype of action, and thus provide their slowly weaking grasp on their populace with a lightning rod to rally around. Considering the British have solid proof that they were in Iraqi waters, this can only get uglier.
- The Last Days of Summer was a a very fun, enjoyable book. If you love baseball, and especially if you’re a guy, I’d recommend this one for a lite Spring read.
- Just did a spellcheck. No misspellings. Whhaaaaaaa?
That’s all for now. One love to you all.
Quite a 24 hour span…
As I walked out of the library last night, having completed my Microeconomis final, I thought things were going to be pretty normal. Oh, how naive I was. When I arrived home, I found out Holly’s dad was being rushed to the ER in Indy by her mother. So, we met them over at the hospital. Around 1am we got home. Then it was a series of odd dog-related events (thunderstorms + dogs = freakouts), leading to numerous wakeups over the next few hours. I ended up being later to work than I hoped, after barely keeping my mother-in-laws car from being towed.
Work was fairly non-interesting, though I did get a few sales. Headed home, though, I discovered that Mr. Bauser had a ruptured appendix (I don’t know if you spell the “part” like the “book component”, but I’m running with it), and with Holly headed to Chicago, I took on the role of comforter with Mrs. Bauser at the hospital. Luckily, the surgery went fine and I got home tonight at about 1am.
So now I’m sitting here, just watching TV and killing time.
Some thoughts at the closing bell:
- I just finished watching “Field of Dreams”. Yup, it’s almost baseball season
- I’m watching a Gay edition of “Next” on MTV. They just grabbed a plate of sausages on the bus to put in their mouths. Seriously? If I’m a member of the gay movement, I’m finding each of these guys and revoking their gay rights for a month. And now they’re making out. Good lord, turn on a hose somebody.
- Being at the hospital last night, I brought up the fact that I’m going on almost five years without any kind of sickness. And yes, I’m knocking on wood as we speak.
- Seriously, all it takes to write for “Next” is the ability to come up with HORRIBLE PUNS. If Law School doesn’t work out, I know where to go a-knockin.
One love to you all, holla.
California was alright, I guess…
Actually, California was pretty freakin awesome. Holly and me had a blast, and the fact that are plane tickets and lodging were free made it that much better. Still, we were glad to get home. We wouldn’t trade Indianapolis for anything, but a diversion is nice now and then.
The week was too long to dissect piece by piece, so here were the best happenings, ranked in order:
- Karaoke at a bar across the street from NBC Studios called Dimples. Why did this get the top spot? Because we met Dennis Haskins there. Who is that, you ask? None other than Mr.Belding from “Saved by the Bell”. And yes, we got a picture with him.
- Disneyland – it’s the happiest place on Earth, it claims. It’s not too far off. “It’s a Small World” is pretty surreal, though.
- Shopping at the Irvine Spectrum. This place was ridiculously nice, and the weather made it perfect to walk around at an open air mall.
- LA/Hollywood/Beverly Hill Tour – This was fun, but Hollywood was def a little bit of a letdown.
- Balboa Island – The day we decide to go the the beach, the weather was down in the low 70’s and very windy. Kinda spoiled it.
So there you have it, the trip in a nutshell. We slept on the floor on an air-mattress, and there was no cable, so we watched alot of “Family Guy” and “Sex in the City” DVD’s. Simply a great, cheap trip. That’s traveling – Grad Student Style.
Now it’s life back to the grindstone. I have a Microeconomics midterm tomorrow night, class tonight, and have to hit the Spring clean hard this weekend. Still, might sneak in a viewing of “300″ Friday night, we’ll see.
Thoughts at the closing bell:
- Ended up getting a 93 on the midterm in Financial Management. See the magic numbers for more insight, but I’m ridiculously happy with this outcome.
- Can President Bush actually dodge this attorney scandal?
- Al Gore testified before congress today about Global Warming. Possibly the most important snore-fest ever in a Congressional hearing.
- Iraq is still falling apart, despite the beginnings of the surge. Surprise, surprise.
- The economy looks to be hanging pretty healthy right now, despite the “stock scare” two weeks ago.
- We watched a homeless man pee himself as he passed us on the street in Hollywood. that’s a moment you don’t forget.
- Things are looking mighty nice for the Tigers heading into the new season.
That’s all for now, one love to you all. Holla
Welcome to the Hotel CALIFORNIA!
Midterms are officially in the books. After cramming for two weeks to read 11 chapters again, do all their problems, and look over old midterms, I was able to put the baby to bed last night. Holly finishes up her last one today. What then, you ask?
I’ll put it like this: “This is how we do it in the O.C., b****!”
That’s right, we’re headed to Orange County, California. Rancho Santa Margarite, to be exact. We are going there and will be staying with Holly’s brother. So lodging is free. We’re using frequent flyer miles that we racked up between the wedding and Spring tuitions. Have you noticed a lack of expenses at this point? Yeah, us too. That’s pretty much the main reason we’re able to pull it off. So we’ll be in California for a whole week. We’re going to Dinseyland, Hollywood, Laguna Beach. We might even go watch the women flock like salmon’s at Capistrano. All in all, a great Spring Break.
This month is actually turning out to be a SUPER one at work, and it looks like I’m on task to meet all of my personal goals, and my boss is pretty pleased with my work. She came in today and told me she was very pleased with where I’m at this point in the game. When am I telling her about law school, you ask? Soon, soon. I’m not a jerk, I’m not giving her a two week notice or anything. I like her and don’t want her stuck like that. So I plan on telling her next month, giving her almost three months to be prepared for me to leave.
Thoughts at the closing bell:
- It seems like everyone in the NFL is making moves. Dominic Rhodes left the Colts to go to Oakland. Willis Mcgahee, Jamal Lewis, and some other big names have been involved in trades. The Lions…well, they haven’t done anything {sigh}.
- Baseball season is less than a month away!!! I’m as excited as a little girl!
- Hopefully my pasty white skin won’t react to harshly to immediate sun. A sunburn the first day would not be too cool.
- Holly starts rotations in just about a three months. That’s pretty awesome, good job hon!
- The diet and workout plan is still going really well, and the results have been pretty good. The key will be making it permanent.
- South Park used the “n-word” 40 times. Not much to say past that, I guess.
- Had a very long discussion last night with a Ukrainian who left while it was still in the Soviet Union. It was interesting, you could almost tell he was insinuating “look, it was screwed up for sure…but it’s not that much better now”. Very interesting convo, to say the least.
That’s it for now, one love to you all, holla atcha boy!
Studying a go-go!
2010 – its set.
Yesterday morning at had a meeting with the woman who heads up the MBA/JD program here at IU in town. Sure enough, she corrected my fearful thoughts that I’d be in school till 2011, and assured me that I’d be out by 2010. So that’s right, if all goes according to plan, I don’t have some type of academic meltdown, and I get through all the way, I’ll be throwing Esquire on the end of my signatures at the ripe old age of 28. I think that’s pretty good, and for some reason just makes me feel like it’s not SOOO far away, even though that really just saves a year.
The Heaton household has been a sanctuary to the learner this week, as Holly and myself have been getting ready for Midterms that start next week (her much more than me, though, as I only have one next week). This past weekend was a tough one time wise, though, as we met up with Kate and Mike for dinner Friday, but then all day Saturday I was in Bloomington for a Leadership Development Institute (I had to conduct a meeting, a “press conference”, and an employee evaluation). Sunday was the annual Fantasy Baseball Draft (team looks ok, reserving judgement for now), this year I got to do it with Doug at his house, as we’ve got him in our league now. Then it was off to an MBA group meeting, which ran for a few more hours. So yeah, not alot of house time this past weekend.
Which is ok, considering this coming weekend will be nothing but a studying marathon. Lots of silence and or classical music, as I try to conjure up the spirits of Financial Management to give me all the powers they can give me.
Thoughts at the closing bell:
- Once midterms are done, we will be leaving town for a few days for Spring Break. Where, you ask? Good question. These are the options: Orange County, CA (her brother offered us a place to stay and free Disneyland tickets for at least one day), Gatlinburg, TN, and Savannah, GA. Thoughts?
- “The Year of Living Dangerously” has been a really good book, and it’s been even more enjoyable knowing that I only payed $1 for it!
- So McCain is unofficially officially in the race now. What does that even mean? He didn’t want to miss the declaring bandwagon, but he wants to wait awhile to organize a bigger party? Kind of interesting.
- Working out has taken a hit do to late nights of studying this week, but overall, after two months in the new year, I feel like the health regimen is still going quite well.
- On the topic of health, I wanted to brag. When practicing doing a physical, the wife listened to my heart rate and checked my pulse. It freaked her out, she said it was amazingly low. She checked it a few more times to make sure she was getting it right. Apparently, I have the heart rate of an extremely well-tuned athlete. That’s right, years of running have turned me into a blood pumping efficiency machine.
- I just want to go to Australia or Europe, and I just want to win the lottery to do it. Is that too much to ask??
One love to you all, holla atcha boy.
