You know you’re old when…
You know you’re not the peak of cool anymore when you’re packed in a house with seventy some odd people, bairly know anyone, and are just ready to get outta there. I’ll explain in a minute.
This past weekend, the wife and myself went down to Montevallo for College Night (it’s was Holly’s first ever). We stayed Friday night north of B’ham, so as not to make it too much of a marathon, and then Saturday woke up and came on in. We stopped in for coffee and to register at the Alumni office. We headed over to the bookstore (I picked up a shirt to work out in and a coffee mug, I lost my old Montevallo one), and then we made our way over to wake up Chadband at his apartment. We got him and Baker up (first time to see Baker since he got back from Iraq, he’s still Baker), and along with Mitchell, we made our way over to Zapopan’s for lunch. Then we proceded to make our way over to the Basketball game, and it was full on Alumni gathering time. April Leigh, Buzz, Melanie, Jenny Bianci, Thrill…the list goes on and one, but needless to say, it was great to see everyone.
Well, after the game, we made a few quick stops for a reception on the hall and at DoublePlay, then we got ready for the shows. The Gold show was simply amazing, and I was so impressed with the Sold Side in general. The Gold’s ended up winning, and seeing them celebrate reminded me of the times it was me up there jumping for joy (and yes, the time I was broken with shame for losing). We left as they circled up, and made our way over to Eclipse for what was gonna eb the victory party. Eclipse had kareokee going on, and as it was clear it wasn’t reserved just for Gold’s, the party was moved to one of the Gold’s houses. That brings us back to the packed house.
As Holly and me walked in to the house, it just hit me suddenly: Am I too old for this? The place was so packed that you could truly not move, and I knew just a fraction of the people. I was ovewhelmed with a feeling of being out of place, too old, and definatley past my shinning time. As I’ve reflected on it though, I’ve come to a realization: No, at 24 and 1/2, I’m not too old for house parties. But I am too old to go back and think I’m just gonna blend in with 18-20 year olds who I don’t know. Yup, that time has come and gone.
Sunday we just relaxed, had coffee and breakfast (we stayed at the bed and breakfast in town, see closing thoughts), watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s, had coffee with Stevanie and Jennifer at the Summit, shopped a bit, then had dinner at Patty and Ginger’s. All in all, probably Holly and me’s best trip to Alabama as a couple.
Thoughts at the closing bell:
* We stayed at the McKibbon House Bed and Breakfast at Montevallo. Yes, I’m sold on B&B’s, though breakfast with the two older couples on Sunday morning was a tad strange (especially since the one couple we’re Vintage Purples, and the others were conservative Gold parents. We were the perfect picture of “the middle ground”)
* Did I mention the Gold show was amazing?
* School work this weekend is going to kick my butt. One the plus side, Sunday is my fantasy baseball draft. Spring is just around the corner, I can taste it.
* What the hell is Brittney Spear’s thinking? Seriously, they say she checked into rehab today, and it’s not a moment too soon. Put a wig on and get control of your life!
* Apparenty teen-on-homeless violence is up across the country. There’s a stat you don’t think about alot, and it’s a pretty sick stat at that.
* The diet and workout regimen is going well, I last weighed in at just a touch below 170, about 169.5. The many compliments on my apperance at CN were appreciated and worth it.
That’s all for now, one love to you all, holla atcha boy!
Let it snow, let it…ok, enough already
As I sit here, watching House be delightfully flippant to yet another ridiculously diseased patient, I can’t help but look out the window and think one thing – I BLOODY HATE THE SNOW.
Today might be one of those days that folks from non-snow affected areas might think is a reason to love the weather. I didn’t have work, I didn’t have class, and I’ve even found out that one of my hardest classes is going to have it’s midterms pushed back. Let me assure you right now, that it is not worth it! It’s not worth it to have to trudge threw a foot of snow to get to the car, the bus stop, the coffee shop. It’s not worth is to not be able to feel your feet when you walk, and to have to bundle up in eight layers just to walk down the street. It’s not worth it to feel your life is at risk when you’re driving to the mall. Nope, it’s not worth it.
There were some highlights, first and foremost getting to spend the whole day with the misses. We had a late breakfast, went and studied at the coffee shop, ran to get new plates for her car, strolled through the mostly closed mall, and finally came back home to eat Taco Bell and watch “Failure to Launch” (not on my recommendation list any time soon). Now Holly is studying/watching “House”, and I’m just trying to figure out the chances of going into work tomorrow.
This weekend is COLLEGE NIGHT! Woooo! I’m pretty excited to go down and cheer on the Gold Side, my Montevallo family, as the go for yet another GV. It’ll be great to see everyone, and I’m excited for Holly to get to see what it is that I’m always babbling about.
Thoughts at the closing bell:
- This past weekend was chocked full of activities: Swing Dancing with folks from Grace; Drinks with Aj and his crew at The Red Room; MBA group work; Indiana Ice game. Yup, it was a busy one.
- Peace with North Korea, huh? Well, we’ll see how it goes, I’m not exactly holding my breath about it.
- What the crap is it with teenage guys, trench-coats, and opening fire on crowds of people? Is it really rock music or violent video games that are to blame? What the heck is going on in the country?
- I think that, at this point, there are 5678 people running for president in 2008. I think my Uncle Leon just declared his candidacy.
One love to you all, holla atcha boy.
Peyton’s gold and freezing cold
Indianapolis is throwing itself a little party this afternoon. In case you didn’t hear, the Indianapolis Colts DEMOLISHED the Bears last night. It wasn’t exactly a pretty game, with the rain really affecting the Colts precision offense, but the score did not reflect how uneven the game was. Peyton was his methodical self, just directing and controlling the offense all game long. On the extreme other end, Rex Grossman def. looked like a guy who has only started one full season at quarterback. Great job, Colts! We watched the game at Jim and Beth’s, along with Holly’s friends Andrew and Betsy. There were Panini’s, bowls of chili, and beers to be had, much fun indeed.
This was quite a crazy weekend. Friday night we went to the Pacer’s game (they did beat the Lakers, can’t say I predicted that) with the Med School, and then went to Howl at the Moon afterwards. It was a lot of fun, and hopefully I’ll remember most of their names nexttime I meet them (as Holly gimaces over many times, I am HORRIBLE at remembering names – not good for the future political career). Saturday we got up and headed off to the MBA gathering going on at Broad Ripple Tavern, then we did a little shopping at the mall. That was followed by a Saturday night “Evening of the Arts” put on by the med school. It was actually pretty interesting, with alot of classical acts, and a few Indian acts as well (India the nation, not Indian as in Native American). Sunday was church, MBA group work from 1-4, and then the Super Bowl. Quite a weekend, indeed.
Thoughts at the closing bell:
* The temperature in Indy as I was leaving for work: -5 degree. That’s just ridiculous. It’s fricking freezin, Mr. Bigglesworth.
* Manning finally has the monkey’s off his back, great job Peyton! I think my conversion to a full blooded Colts fan must be complete, as I was going nuts last night. I hate being a sports fan bigamist, but I think the Lions have to share space with the Colts, especially since I’ve never lived in Detroit, but for sure plan on being in Indy for awhile. The Pacers – not so much for now.
* Buckley lost our Super Bowl wager, so now all beers in June at Wrigley are on him. In the words of Borat, “VERY Niiiiice!”
* Parade for the Colts today at 4pm. We’re being urged to go. I didn’t need much urging.
One love to you all, holla.
